RSPCA develops chicken football viral to push welfare issues

LONDON - Animal welfare charity RSCPA has developed a World Cup viral to support better conditions for farm chickens.

The game involves a chicken dribbling a football and avoiding a variety of farm equipment to highlight the importance of freedom of movement and exercise for farm chickens.

According to the charity, some farm owners already give their chickens footballs to play with to help them get fitter.

Chloe Alexander, RSPCA campaign manager, said: "A football game involving chickens was seen as a quirky and timely way of communicating some tricky chicken welfare issues, while reaching a much wider audience than the usual RSPCA supporters."

The site also gives players a raft of information about good farming practice for chickens and the Freedom Food scheme. This is a labelling scheme whereby farms that give their chickens as much freedom as possible receive a Freedom Food logo on their products.

Consumers are being urged to only buy eggs and chickens displaying the logo.
