The series centres around the Webbs, a white, working-class family who are thrust into the limelight when their 15-year-old daughter Ashley is spotted by a model scout.
Instead of holidaying in Benidorm for two weeks every August and having Sunday roast at Nana's flat on the estate every week, the Webb family have to cope with disruption to their ordinary lives and their new-found fame.
The series is aimed at a family audience "with appeal for 25- to 35-year old market", as well as 15-year-olds who will have an affinity with Ashley and her friends, according to Mario Styliandes, executive producer on the show.
The series is being produced by independent production company Hat Trick North Productions, an off-shot of Hat Trick Productions, the producer of 'Have I Got News for You' and 'Drop the Dead Donkey'.
Casting for the series will be announced shortly with Beverley Keogh, casting director behind BBC One series 'Clocking Off' and Channel 4's 'Shameless', searching for new talent for the parts of Ashley and her sister Jade from Manchester and Salford.
Stuart Murphy, controller of BBC Three, said: "It reinforces our commitment to producing strong comedy out of London, and we hope that it'll build on the success of 'Ideal' and 'I'm with Stupid', both of which are Manchester comedies for BBC Three."
Filming on 'Teenage Supermodel' begins in January with the series due to air in a primetime slot later in the year.
