Royal party planner launches wedding company fit for a queen

LONDON – A 52-year-old businesswoman is launching Fabulous Gay Weddings with a promotion on Gaydar Radio, offering one lucky couple a wedding and honeymoon worth £60,000 in time for the legalisation of same-sex weddings in the UK.

Jenny Crandley is best known for planning parties for royal families, but is now turning her head to creating weddings for upmarket gay couples.

The lucky couple to win the competition will be among the first same-sex couples to legally tie the knot following the change in the law, which comes into effect in the UK on December 21.

The promotion will involve couples entering via the with a photo of themselves, details of how long they have been together, why they want to get married and what their ideal wedding might be.

The winning couple will be chosen by a panel of judges and anounced on the digital radio station in October. The panel will include Crandley and Jamie Crick, station director of Gaydar Radio.

The promotion will include catering from The Moving Venue, cocktail drinks supplied by The Player Bar, wedding gift list from Wrapit and the reception settings provided by Madame Tussauds, which is hosting the launch party for Fabulous Gay Weddings.

London-based jeweller Johnny Rocket, whose designs have been worn by Kylie Minogue, Julian Macdonald and Boy George, will be supplying the winning couple with customised wedding rings. Online travel group is providing an all-expenses-paid honeymoon to attend the Mardi Gras in Sydney in March.

The international cabaret artiste Tim McArthur has been taken on by Fabulous Gay Weedings as "token gay" adviser for couples planning their big day.

"After years of organising wonderful events for corporate clients, I decided it was time to turn our hand to an altogether different marketplace which appreciates, style, glamour and glitz. Fabulous Gay Weddings promises fabulousness for gay grooms everywhere," Crandley said.

Jenny Crandley started her career with Puffin kid's book club parties and has spent the last 10 years organising events for corporate companies such as Oracle, Microsoft and United Airlines.

Fabulous Gay Weddings has appointed The Graphic Design Business to design its website.

The internet and digital radio station Gaydar Radio -- available on digital TV channel 908 in the UK, Eurobird Satellite across Europe and on digital radio in the UK-- revealed its listening figures had risen by 16% to 200,045 listeners in June of this year.

Gaydar Radio was chosen as the official radio broadcaster at four of this year's prominent Pride events across the country.
