Royal Mail and CWU locked in talks over strike deal

LONDON - Royal Mail and the Communication Workers Union are meeting today for further talks in the hope that a final settlement can be made to end five months of rolling strike action.

It is understood the CWU wants to clarify outstanding issues regarding a deal which is reported to give staff a 6.9% pay rise over two years. CWU will then decide whether to recommend the deal to its 130,000 union members.

Royal Mail has conceded that the strikes have so far cost the business tens of millions of pounds.

Further postal strikes have been suspended until there has been an outcome in talks between CWU and Royal Mail.

Meanwhile, the sporadic wildcat strikes that have occurred in Liverpool in the last week over working hours have been called off today, according to the BBC.
