Roger Mosey appointed BBC's Director of London 2012

LONDON - The BBC has appointed its director of sport Roger Mosey as director of London 2012 following his successful handling of its coverage of the Olympic Games from Beijing.

Mosey will lead the co-ordination of all the BBC's activities surrounding the London Olympic Games, involving the whole of the UK in that summer's event.

Mark Thompson, BBC director-general, said: "I witnessed first hand in Beijing what is required to successfully deliver such a major broadcasting event, and we all saw the outstanding coverage by the BBC.

"I believe Roger Mosey is ideally placed to fulfil such a challenging and important new role."

Mosey will also lead the BBC's relationship with external bodies involved in 2012 as well as reporting to Mark Byford, chair of the London 2012 Steering Group.

Mosey said: "I believe there's a fantastic opportunity to bring the whole of the BBC together -- globally, nationally and locally -- to provide an unforgettable sporting and cultural experience for our audiences."

Mosey is currently the BBC's director of sport for television, radio and online and will continue this role until his successor is appointed.
