BBC wins UK rights for 2010 and 2012 Olympic Games

LONDON – The BBC has won the UK television, radio and online broadcasting rights to cover the 2010 Winter Olympics from Vancouver and 2012 Games.

The 2010 Winter Olympics and the 2012 Summer Games are the latest addition to BBC Sport's portfolio, which also includes FA Premiership highlights, live FA Cup matches and England home matches, World Cup 2006, Six Nations rugby, Wimbledon, The Open, US Masters, Grand National, The Derby and Royal Ascot.

Peter Salmon, BBC director of sport, said: "We're delighted to continue to bring this most prestigious of sporting events to audiences throughout the UK.

"It's a massive boost to our teams planning the Athens coverage this year from broadband to BBC One. And whether it's Paris, New York, Madrid or even London in 2012, the BBC will relish its involvement in the biggest and best sporting competition on earth."

This year, the BBC's coverage of the Athens Olympics begins with the Opening Ceremony on August 13 and will incorporate more coverage of the games than ever before.

In all, BBC One and BBC Two will carry 250 hours of coverage while there will be more than 1,000 hours available via interactive television. For the first time, BBC Sport will also be offering live coverage of the games via broadband direct to viewers' desktops.
