Allen, a former chairman of the association, has been actively involved in the executive team for five years and has most recently been working as treasurer.
Traditionally Eventia has filled the chair position from the position of vice chair, but Allen has taken the post on the agreement that he will not automatically take up the chair position.
"I am delighted Rob has agreed to take up this role. His experience and input are extremely valuable to the organisation and those that know him will know how lucky we are to have him on board," said Eventia chair Mark Saxby.
"We have a number of board members who are potential candidates [for chair], including those that have recently joined us, and this move allows us more time to allow them to build up their board experience," he added.
