The appointment means Davidson-Houston has responsibility for all Channel 4's online propositions and commissioning and follows the decision to combine all commissioning and creative activities into one cross platform decision.

Davidson-Houston will report to acting chief creative officer Julian Bellamy and will be charged with developing the strategic and creative vision of Channel 4 online.

In addition to his current responsibility for Channel 4 online products, cross-platform commissioning, the investment fund 4iP and education will now report to Davidson-Houston in his new role, which he starts today.

Davidson-Houston has worked at Channel 4 since 2007 and was responsible for the relaunch of Channel4.com and on demand service 4oD.

Prior to joining Channel 4 he worked as a product manager and then business manager at Microsoft.

Bellamy said: "In his time at Channel 4 Richard has had a huge impact on Channel 4's online activities.

"His appointment signals our ambition to continue to take the lead in brilliant, award-winning cross-platform initiatives and I'm delighted he will be joining our enlarged commissioning team."
