RFU campaigns for Facebook fans before Six Nations clash

LONDON - The England rugby team is attempting to get fans to sign up to its Facebook group ahead of this weekend's Six Nations encounter against Wales, which has more Facebook fans.

The Official England Rugby is currently being promoted through a video created by the RFU, which shows highlights against the Welsh and is hosted on YouTube.

A call to action urges England fans to beat the Welsh on Facebook.

Peter Thomas, director of communications at the RFU, said: "The Welsh Facebook page has more members than ours and so as part of our RBS 6 Nations communications we wanted to exploit the friendly rivalry between our nations to drive fans to the England Rugby pages.

"We've given our Facebook pages an overhaul since the autumn internationals and now offer fans exclusive videos and photos from all of England's representative teams. We run regular, exclusive competitions for our Facebook followers and provide a platform for fans to show their support and discuss England Rugby."

Yesterday the RFU signed up business insurer, QBE, as its first official insurance partner ahead of this weekend's game at Twickenham.
