Revlon to return to celebrity advertising

NEW YORK - Revlon has said it plans to go back to celebrity-led advertising, seven months after it dumped model Cindy Crawford to focus on relatively unknown models.

The company will reportedly be making a return to its 80s advertising, which featured famous faces and the strapline: "The world's most unforgettable women wear Revlon."

Revlon has recently signed faces such as the actresses Julianne Moore and James King. It is also continuing to use the actress Halle Berry in its advertising.

The latest ad campaign in the US will feature Moore promoting Revlon's age-defying foundation, with the strapline "Be yourself. Be unforgettable". The TV ads break next week and will be followed by magazine ads. The campaign was created by Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners.

Supermodel Cindy Crawford was the face of Revlon for 11 years, before the company decided it wanted a strategy that made beauty more accessible to the average woman. However, it has seen sales fall in 2001, despite the fact it spent 30% more on its "It's fabulous being a woman" advertising than it did in 2000.
