Retail brands including Boots, Argos and MFI have signed up to a
new online advertising promotion package by Yahoo! UK & Ireland.
The online ad package, a bid to ramp up e-commerce activity during the
Christmas season, also has John Lewis, Interflora, Littlewoods and Kays
signed up.
Under the new scheme, each partner will be shown with up to four other
brands in a Yahoo! Delivers email sent to 1.5 million active users.
Partners also gain a new ad placement which is guaranteed for one
million page impressions and is situated on Yahoo!'s home page.
Participants will also gain a place in Yahoo!'s shopping section, which
is to undergo a revamp in the way partners are integrated into the
site.
A new Remote Merchant Integration (RMI) format will place Yahoo!
branding across the top of a partner's site, ending the need for
microsite development and maintenance. Links will also be shown during
search results.
Lee Thompson, commercial director at Yahoo! UK & Ireland, said the move
was just being rolled out in the UK following its success in the US.
He said: "Site partners are so busy maintaining their site, that the
last thing they want is to maintain another one. This will reduce time
and expense."
The move follows internal research at Yahoo! which says that 64 per cent
of its users intend to shop online in the next three months.
