The campaign, created by Shop and EBoy, spans TV, print and online marketing. The press campaign features, a Weeble, an egg-shaped man who 'bounces back, no matter what hits him'. The TV ad has been made in the style of a virtual world computer game, similar in appearance to the popular 90s computer game Sim City. The spot shows a Honduran village being destroyed by a hurricane and how donations are used to provide more than just emergency food and clean water. In the ad people are show rebuilding their village with the help of Christian Aid so that when disaster strikes again they are better prepared to cope with it. The ad is based on an actual project in Honduras, where Christian Aid works to show local people how to build stronger homes on stilts to avoid floods, protect livestock and run evacuation drills.
During Christain Aid Week the ads will ask viewers to give money to volunteers. Last year during its Aid Week the charity raised more than £15m through door-to-door collections.
Further funds will be raised through a new nationwide 'pub quiz' called QizAid backed by actor Shaun Williamson. Participants pay £2 with money going to Christian Aid. Christian Aid Week runs from 11-17 May.
