It attracted 2.5m viewers and a 12.4% share of the 9pm to 11pm audience. Including Channel 4+1 figures it reached 2.6m viewers.
ITV1 documentary series 'Billy Connolly: Journey to the Edge of the World' tied with a repeat of BBC One's popular detective drama 'New Tricks' for the top spot with 4m viewers each.
This week Connolly travelled from the Atlantic to the Pacific through the fabled Northwest Passage, a route that is only possible for a few summer weeks when the ice melts.
Andrew Marr's BBC Two series 'Darwin's Dangerous Idea', exploring how Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection has transformed our understanding of what it means to be human, drew 1.7m viewers and a 7.1% share of the 9pm to 10pm audience.
Five's 'Soho Blues' documentary series, profiling police work in the West End of London, netted 935,000 viewers and a 4% share of the audience.
While earlier in the evening Five's US import 'Stylista', featuring 11 fashion enthusiasts competing for an editorial job on Elle magazine, debuted with just 253,000 viewers and a 1% share of the 8pm to 9pm audience.
