BBC Two's 'Monty Halls' Great Escape', which saw marine biologist Halls getting to grips with a composting toilet as he continued his adventure as a beachcomber on the west coast of Scotland, netted 2.4m viewers and a 9.2% share of the audience.
Channel 4's airing of romantic comedy 'She's the Man', a teen update of Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night' starring Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum, attracted 1.8m viewers and an 8.2% share of the 9pm-11pm audience. Including Channel 4+1 figures it reached 2m viewers.
It beat Five's showing of IRA thriller 'The Devil's Own', starring Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt, which scored 600,000 viewers and a 2.7% share of the 9pm-11.15pm audience.
Saturday's biggest audience went to BBC One for its penultimate celebrity hoofing spectacular 'Let's Dance for Comic Relief' at 7.05pm-8.20pm.
Performances from six celebrity acts, including Dom Joly and Angela Rippon, brought in 8.1m viewers and gave the channel a 35% share.
From 7.15pm to 7.45pm 5.4m viewers (23.3% of the audience) tuned to ITV1 to watch 'Harry Hill's TV Burp', followed at 7.45pm-9pm by 'Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway', which managed 6.5m viewers and a 27.6% share.
'Casualty' pulled in 6.4m for a 27.4% share at 8.30pm-9.20pm while just 3.4m (16.3%) watched ITV1's 'Midsomer Murders' at 9pm-10.30pm.
Channel 4 screened a repeat of 'Queen Victoria's Men', a docudrama depicting the monarch's relationship with Prince Albert, two prime ministers and two servants, coinciding with the cinema release of the film 'The Young Victoria'.
It was seen by 1.3m viewers at 9pm-10.40pm giving C4 a 6.4% share, with another 75,000 watching it on Channel 4+1.
In the late afternoon action from Fulham's FA Cup tie against Manchester United gave ITV1 4.8m viewers and a 25.6% share of viewing.
