Radio specialist Eardrum expands management team

LONDON - Radio specialist Eardrum has further expanded with the appointment of David Amstel as its new-business development director.

The appointment allows Eardrum to continue to capitalise on the expansion of commercial radio, particularly in the areas of sponsorship and promotion, which grew by 14.8% last year.

Martin Sims, managing director of Eardrum, said: "The latest figures from the RAB show that commercial radio continues to enjoy good growth -- this new position is part of our strategy to meet this increasing demand. We are delighted that David has joined the Eardrum team because he brings a wide range of skills and experience to this newly created position."

Amstel joins Eardrum, which was founded 13 years ago, with more than 10 years' marketing and advertising experience. He began his career with Guinness as a graduate management trainee and spent five years with United Distillers, where he was brand manager for Bell's Whisky.

On the agency side, Amstel has worked for The Leith Agency in Edinburgh and was part of the start-up team for Leith London. More recently, he has worked for marketing agencies Billington Cartmell and Meteorite. He has worked on a number of accounts including Bank of Scotland, Tennent's Lager, Carling, Grolsch, COI Communications, Deutsche Bank, Coinstar, Sainsbury's Bank, CNN and Whitbread.

According to Amstel: "It is great to be joining Eardrum as they have a real understanding of what works for radio advertising. I am looking forward to introducing Eardrum's expertise in creativity to those new clients who often overlook the opportunities that radio advertising can offer them."

Amstel is a graduate of Nottingham University, and was a former DJ, news reporter and arts editor for University Radio Nottingham.
