Radio 1 web game shows heroic edge

The self-proclaimed saviour of "Breakfast radio", Radio 1's Chris Moyles, is the inspiration for a superhero-themed online game to launch this autumn.

After a four-way pitch, digital gaming agency de-construct and interactive digital gaming agency Playerthree were chosen to develop online content for The Chris Moyles Show. The brief was for a game that could be integrated into the live show.

Content management systems will enable guests on the show to appear as characters in the game. Chris, in his superhero garb, will be downloadable, so users will be able to access Radio 1 news and updates from the desktop.

Andrew Barron, senior content producer at Radio 1, commented: "Interactivity plays an important part in Chris's show, with the audience sending in a huge number of text messages in particular. Online games give the audience another channel to interact with the show and takes it the extra mile."

Dan Douglas, de-construct business development director, said: "Chris has always played up to the 'Saviour of Radio 1' line and appeared in the recent advertising as a superhero, which gave us a lot of scope for gameplay. We were inspired by some recent classic anti-heroes, such as Pixar's The Incredibles."
