Racing UK recently signed a deal with Setanta Sport to move to channel 432, with its free signal to be switched off from October.
The channel, dedicated entirely to horse racing, originally launched in June this year as a free-service on Sky Sports TV channel 425.
Simon Bazalgette, Racing UK chairman, said: "It allows us to be more focused on quality racing and less independent on advertising."
A launch promotion will give viewers the first two months' subscription free if they sign up for a year and pay £200. Racing UK's business plan is based on 20,000 subscriptions to break even.
The channel, formerly known as Attheraces, the consortium between Channel 4, Sky and Arena Leisure, was set up by 30 UK racecourse chiefs in May because they wanted greater control of their media rights.
Attheraces is currently locked in a bitter row under terms of the original 10-year deal with Channel 4, which paid £307m for coverage from 49 of the 59 UK racecourses.
