RAC appoints Experian to smooth recovery

LONDON - The RAC has signed a deal with Experian to help it improve its roadside recovery service by responding to broken down motorists more efficiently.

The data specialist will provide the RAC with nearly 2m business records from its National Business Database, which will help the RAC Breakdown Assistance Centre pinpoint the location of a broken-down vehicle.

Rather than a stranded motorist having to describe their location by road name and area, they will now be able to name a nearby business in order for the RAC to trace their whereabouts -- for example, a local shop or pub.

The RAC can also use the data to suggest a location for its member to wait for the patrolman, such as a cafe or supermarket.

Experian's National Business Database records, which include names, addresses and descriptions of businesses, are being supplied to the RAC and then loaded into its Command and Control database.

"We awarded this contract to Experian because the high level of service, data quality and data coverage meant that we could rely on this information to help us more effectively serve our members," RAC head of customer solutions Simon Sheldon said.

The records will be updated regularly to ensure accuracy.
