Pullan to leave Emap

David Pullan, Emap’s strategic marketing and brand development director, is to leave the company at the end of the month without a job to go to.

Pullan told Media Week the split was amicable, but that his departure was prompted by disagreements about his role in the wake of Emap’s current efficiency review.
“I was in conversations about what I did next, but the opportunities presented didn’t sit with my career aspirations at this moment, so it was time to move on,” he said.
Pullan added that he was in talks about his next move, but had no immediate plans.
Emap confirmed Pullan would leave the company and said it would not hire a direct replacement.
Emap has hired Boston Consulting to assist with a strategic review, which aims to deliver £20m a year in savings over the next two financial years, with the bulk due in the 2008-09 reporting period.
Chief executive Tom Moloney is expected to come under continued pressure to deliver value to shareholders and the review has prompted speculation about a management reshuffle.
Pullan’s departure follows a reshuffle within Emap’s men’s division, with editor-in-chief Anthony Noguera taking over FHM, following the departure of editor Ross Brown, and Arena editor Will Drew moving onto new projects at the company.
Pullan joined the company three years ago as managing director of FHM and took up the development role in April last year to help the media owner extend its magazine and radio brands onto new platforms.
He was previously Five’s director of marketing and strategy, and has also worked at Viacom and McKinsey.
