Half of the north London venue is in a state of disrepair and is closed to the public. The palace, known as the ‘People’s Palace’, currently stages live music, entertainment and sporting activities and will host

The consultation began on 18 May and Londoners can take part until 22 June by visiting Alexandra Palace or .

The plans are divided into six ‘Big Ideas’ and include upgrading the live entertainment spaces such as the Great Hall, which would have its lighting, backstage areas and glass roof repaired as a minimum.

The consultation document states that the hall, which holds more than 10,000 people "requires significant investment to maximise its potential".

Proposals also include restoring the Victorian Theatre to its former glory, creating a hotel, improving the road layout and terraces outside the Palm Court, upgrading entrance spaces and re-opening unused corridors in the building.

Duncan Wilson, chief executive of Alexandra Park & Palace Charitable Trust, said: "In much the same way as the South Bank has carved a cultural niche for itself in London over the last few years, we have a vision to create a vibrant cultural and recreational People’s Palace north of the river. Our plans are about improving and updating the whole site as well as parts of live entertainment venue; we therefore want to ensure that our proposal are supported by our local communities, visitors and stakeholders and ensure that our stakeholders have a chance to input on what is important to them."

Regeneration plans are currently in the early stages. The consultation states: "Based on the public response to the consultation, we will be able to assess the support and demand for the Trust’s ideas. We intend to approach potential partners for the event business and hotel operations later in the year. We will also be in discussion with potential donors, such as the Heritage Lottery Fund, later in the year."
