LONDON - The average price of a pint of beer has climbed over the £3 mark for the first time in parts of Britain, according to the new edition of the Good Pub Guide.

Pub companies blamed for the £3 pint

While the average price of a pint is £2.68, up from £2.58 last year, a pint of bitter in Surrey costs £3.01. The guide blames the big pub companies which set the prices, leading others to follow.

The British Beer and Pub Association insisted that rising prices were largely due to the government, because more than a third of the price of a pint is tax.
