Given the amount of PR it has generated and, to be fair, the quality of the programming on offer, you would think the BBC's iPlayer would be streets ahead when it comes to the public's choice of an on-demand TV service.
But, as we can see from Media Week's spot public poll, the Sky Player and Anytime service is running neck and neck with Auntie. And if you break the data down further, in the younger 13-17 age group and the older 35-49 group, Sky actually came out top with 32% of the vote.
ITV.com, meanwhile, still has plenty to do to get the public on board with what is an excellent service. It is also worth noting that while on-demand TV is growing, the vast majority of respondents still spent 80% of their time viewing standard linear offerings.
Methodology
Media Week ran the questions across Facebook, targeting UK consumers only. Two questions were asked: What is your favourite service? And what percentage of your TV viewing is done through on demand services? Both questions were asked twice, once in the evening, and again during the morning. In total, 740 people responded to the two questions.
