The refurbishment, , will include a conference centre and a 2,800sqm event hall situated at the heart of the power station, as part of the 'Creative' zone.

"The space will be used for business and cultural events, but there will be a strong leaning towards design expos and shows, lectures and conferences. The venue will animate the building on a daily and weekly basis and ensure financial sustainability over time," said a Treasury Holdings spokesperson

The event space will sit among 3,700 homes, 150,000sqm of offices and 65,000sqm of retail and restaurant space.

A hotel and hospital are also planned for the site, which will be served by an extension to the Northern Line – an element estimated to cost £450m.

The application is currently pending approval from the London Borough of Wandsworth.
