The government to allow homeowners to build extensions of up to nine metres without having to seek planning approval. The move is expected to encourage more people to embark on home improvement projects.
Rob Nathan, group marketing manager at Media 10, said: "Any positive amendment to planning regulations will obviously be beneficial. Grand Designs Live is the perfect event for those looking to improve their homes so we may well see an uplift in sales for the shows over the next year."
He added he would consider altering content at the shows to reflect the new rules if they come into force, as long as there is a direct benefit to visitors.
Lee Newton, managing director of Media 10, said both visitors and exhibitors stood to benefit: "Homeowners will be encouraged to undertake home improvement projects, without incurring the cost or lengthy delay of seeking planning approval, changes that will strengthen relations between communities and the trade and positively boost the self-build and home improvement market, as well as increase interest in shows like Grand Designs Live.
"However, embarking on home improvement projects can often require a complex procedure. With that there is inevitably an increasing need to provide quality guidance and advice on the best practice, which is why shows like Grand Designs Live are essential to provide expert advice and guidance from a wide range of suppliers and builders."
The next Grand Designs Live show will be at the NEC in Birmingham from 12-14 October.
