Pitch update: M&S, TSB, Sainsbury's, Hiscox

Agencies hoping to pick up Marks & Spencer's ad account will have had to cut short their trip to Cannes: the retailer is holding chemistry meetings on 27 June.

Sixteen-year incumbent Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R is taking part, led by its new senior team of chief executive Jon Sharpe and chief creative officer Jonathan Burley. M&S will draw up a shortlist from fellow WPP shops and hold pitches in August.

Also spare a thought for agencies competing for the TSB media account – they are likely to be missing some or all of Cannes. Manning Gottlieb OMD and sister Omnicom shop Drum go head-to-head with Dentsu Aegis Network’s Vizeum alongside John Brown Media. The7stars and content agency Sunday are no longer in the running.

There was excitement in adland after a rumour suggested that Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO would not repitch for Sainsbury’s ad account, which has come up for review through AAR. However, AMV plans to defend the business and is waiting to see whether the supermarket giant takes it to pitch. Sainsbury’s has held introductory meetings with CHI & Partners, Grey London, Joint, Lucky Generals and MullenLowe London.

Business insurer Hiscox is sizing up four agencies after holding tissue meetings earlier this month. Incumbent VCCP is in the mix, alongside AMV, Anomaly and Wieden & Kennedy. ISBA is running the pitch.
