Pigsback enters UK with £6m budget

An Irish consumer web site that includes Kellogg's, Lever Faberge, Coca-Cola and Guinness among its partners, is opening in the UK, supported by a £6 million launch budget.

Pigsback.com, which enables brands to put offers and competitions in one place online, has signed partnerships with eBay, CD Wow, Figleaves, Blockbuster and Virgin Wines for the launch, set for the start of June.

The firm said it is the sixth-largest consumer site in the Irish Republic in terms of traffic and claims 30 per cent of online marketing spend in the country.

Salem Lassoued, corporate development manager at Virgin Wines (www.virginwines.com), said: "Pigsback creates an environment in which the brand's message is welcome and relevant to consumers by carefully cultivating consumer loyalty."

The service is owned by Empathy Marketing. Its CEO, Michael Dwyer, explained: "The time has come to move on from basic permission-based marketing to an approach that puts consumers first, and can be honest about its intentions. This works well for brands not traditionally comfortable with online."
