The VisitYork4Meetings' 'York Minster to Westminster' event welcomed representatives from German and UK-based organisations and event buyers, including The Green Party, Barratt Homes, The Royal Society of Medicine, the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy.

The event begun with networking opportunities and an afternoon tea in the Members Dining Room, followed by speeches from Jane Gibson, chairman of Visit York, who highlighted York’s range of conference, event venues and suppliers, as well as the Rt Hon the Lord Shutt of Greetland of the Liberal Democrat party.

Guests watched a video which featured York’s historical milestones and highlighted how the region welcomes seven million visitors each year, as well as generating £4bn for the local economy.

The event continued with a behind-the-scenes tour of the venue, with guides taking guests through a number of rooms including the public gallery in the House of Commons.

Guests then made their way to the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre for a York venue showcase. Venues in attendance included The Jorvik Group, Hotel Du Vin & Bistro and Hilton York, who hosted 15-minute buyer appointments.

Caterer Leith's served a range of finger and bowl food on the night including a whitebait fritter and duck fat chips with tartar sauce; traditional Yorkshire pudding with hand carved cannon of medium rare beef and heritage English carrots; and English vegetarian hotpots.

Kate McMullen, head of Visit York, said: "York Minster to Westminster is a great example of the kind of innovative work that Visit York is known for. It’s not only innovative, it produces great results. By taking our business tourism offer to the capital, we aim to produce a cohesive, measurable result for the city in terms of future conference bookings."
