Pest control brand Rentokil is hosting an insect-themed pop-up eatery in Cardiff, as part of today's (3 June) Global Pestaurant Day.

The event will see a string of unusual culinary experiences take place in 11 countries around the world. It is the first time Rentokil’s Pestaurant, which first popped up in London in 2013, has visited the Welsh capital.

Andy Holcroft, founder and head chef at Grub Kitchen, will be at the activation, serving up a menu featuring salt and vinegar crickets, Mexican spiced mealworms and chocolate-covered mixed bugs.

Later this year, Holcroft will open the UK’s first permanent insect restaurant in St David’s, west Wales.

Other destinations selected for the day of bug-eating include Boston in the US, Johannesburg in South Africa, Istanbul in Turkey and Oslo in Norway.

Last year’s Global Pestaurant Day saw more than 20,300 visitors sample food made from Rentokil’s pests. The brand hopes even more will visit an activation this year.
