Attendees received a map upon entry to the events, which invited them to take part in a scavenger hunt around the park. Those who successfully located creatures such as snakes, turtles and butterflies received a Durrells explorer badge as a memento.

Other activities included turtle racing, honey tasting from a digital beehive, clay creature making and pond dipping.

Treats such as watermelon sticks were available to snack on, meanwhile Greek-inspired dishes including grilled chicken souvlaki and lamb kofta were served from traditional tavernas, produced by agency Creativevents.

Attendees then entered a bespoke space created by Event Concept, coined the ‘Garden of Gods' where the first episode in The Durrells series was shown, offering them the chance to view the programme before it aired to the British public on Sunday (3 April).

ITV secured Glyn Young, a conservation biologist from the Durrells Conservation Wildlife Trust to introduce the series.

Jenni Eley, head of events at ITV said: "This event was a resounding success with outstanding feedback from all the guests, and achieved our aim of turning viewers into fans. These events are such a fantastic approach to bring our content to life in an immersive way, and to reach out to new audiences to create a buzz before the show airs."

ITV also opted for in October last year.
