At last Friday's (4 October) Event Awards 2013, 700 event professionals were treated to a night of food and drink, entertainment and the all important awards presentations at the Roundhouse in Camden.
Ahead of a three-course meal, guests donned masks, capes and a wealth of props as part of Photobooth Out Of Order’s superhero-themed photobooth.
Waiters served attendees a specially-created menu from caterer Zafferano including a starter of caramelised chicory tarte, pickled walnuts, pear, dandelion and Beauvale Blue beignets. Main was a slow-cooked shoulder of Cornish lamb, potato Dauphinoise, rowanberry jelly and heritage carrots.
The vegetarian main option was a wild mushroom and potato pave with cavolo nero, tomato fondue and red wine reduction.
For dessert, a ‘kryptonite bombe’ – named after Superman’s achilles’ heel – was served, including a passionfruit mousse, lime curd and white chocolate glaze, pistachio and white chocolate shards, and mango coulis.
Rachel Bull, associate editor of Event magazine, took to the stage to introduce this year’s Event Awards and commended the industry’s work during the London 2012 Olympic Games, as well as in the past 12 months. She also highlighted the publication’s latest campaign, Women in Events, which launched earlier this year.
Comedian Rufus Hound kept guests laughing throughout the night and presented the awards ceremony, which this year included 30 award categories with .
Attendees were also treated to live performances from two of the three Act of the Year finalists, including Your Awards Ceremony Choir whose ten performers emerged from the audience and sung a compilation of songs including Higher and Higher and Livin’ On A Prayer.
Contraband’s four-piece Junk band used oil drums, pipes and brooms as part of their performance and recreated their own versions of songs including Circle of Life from the Disney film The Lion King. The audience were invited to vote by text on the night for their favourite act. Around 350 votes were cast on the night with Junk receiving the most in the text poll.
