Celebrations in the capital, organised by the London Chinatown Chinese Association (LCCA) and backed by the Mayor of London Boris Johnson, took place throughout Trafalgar Square and Chinatown.

The free event featured the traditional dotting the eyes ceremony, as well as the flying dragon and lion dance by the Chen Brothers.

Performances included acts from the UK and China such as Cultures of China Festival of Spring, Hong Kong band SIU2, Nanjing Little Red Flower Art Troupe and Mary Jess, the British singer who won Chinese X Factor.

A parade led by the lucky money god also took place in Charing Cross Road, and attendees also had the opportunity to sample regional Chinese cooking at a number of restaurants in the area.
