Open until 23 December in the Network Rail archways in south-east London, the new venture has been marketed as a winter pop-up street food market with a difference. Vendors have been encouraged to sell their wares out of quirky vehicles, such as a 45 foot-high craft beer bus, a vintage ice cream truck, a 1959 Leyland Tiger Cub Bus and Land Rover modified to include a fire oven.
Chef, food writer and restauranter Mark Hix has also been confirmed to bring his Fish Dog stall to Union Yard in a vintage Citroen H van. Live music and entertainment will be provided by bands The Indian Electric Company and Monty Swan.
Guests will be offered blankets, mulled wine and Baileys hot chocolate to ward off the cold before the 9pm weekday closing time.
Tom Montgomery-Swan, director of Taste Street Food, said: "This area has never seen street food presented in this type of setting like this before and we are incredibly excited about bringing this event to the people for free. It’s a fantastic privilege to rejuvenate this Network Rail site and showcase the location as a hot spot for award-winning, affordable artisan food.
"It’s set to be the quirkiest pop-up food market in London and we hope that for the nine days we are open, it will be enjoyed by many."
