The ship – the world's last surviving tea clipper - is moored at Greenwich and has been closed to the public since 2006 for the conservation project. It will reopen for event hire in October and will host corporate entertainment, parties, wedding receptions and other events.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh visited Cutty Sark Gardens to listen to a performance of an orchestral and choral suite composed to mark the Diamond Jubilee.  

They were then given a tour of the renovated ship, viewing the new interior, main deck and the dry berth below the hull of the ship where they met key figures involved in the conservation project.

The Queen unveiled a plaque commemorating her two openings of the ship – her first visit was in 1957.

SXS Events provided full production support for the launch event, including stage and lighting design for the concert, a sound control system and live recording of the performance.

Alex Thompson, head of sound at SXS said: "This has been one of the most challenging and interesting sound projects we have worked on. We were mixing over fifty channels of microphones all of which had to be time-delayed precisely to achieve accurate reinforcement. This was fed out into four zones of audio to give sound coverage over a large and complex audience area."
