Period Living & Traditional Homes gets new look

LONDON - Emap Media's Period Living & Traditional Homes is set to unveil a new look with the April issue after its circulation crashed 11.8% in the most recent ABCs.

Under editor Sharon Parsons, the magazine's revamp sees the title focus more on its core content in an effort to be more relevant to its readers and their passion for period properties.

Period Living & Traditional Homes saw its circulation fall to 70,562 from 80,023, a fall of 11.8% year on year and a fall of 6.3% period on period. It was one of the biggest fallers in the sector, beaten only by the National Magazine Company's Your Home, which saw its circulation drop by 24.5% to 115,111.

The new mix will see more features on reader homes, decorating specials, essential sourcing guides for period items, and expert practical advice to help readers blend old styles with the practical considerations of modern life.

Mark Elliott, Period Living & Traditional Homes publisher, said: "We have a really talented editor at the helm who has helped create a far more approachable celebration of living in an old home, accurately reflecting the reader's tastes and aspirations, and creating a genuine relationship with her. This magazine is the friend that's with her when the going gets tough, gives her inspiration to make the dream happen, and introduces her to like-minded people."

To celebrate the relaunch, the magazine will be hosting a lunch at The Gothic Temple at Stowe, Buckinghamshire for key contributors and advertisers to coincide with April's publication day of March 6.

"Period Living really does have a spirit all of its own. Our readers, contributors, experts and team share a genuine fascination for the past and all it holds -- from the restoration of old houses to the stories and influences of time gone by, and the way they link our lives today," Parsons said.

The Period Living & Traditional Homes show takes place at Islington Business Design Centre on May 9-11 with a second Period Living show to launch later this year on November 1-2 in Harrogate, Yorkshire.

Parsons took over as editor of Period Living & Traditional Homes magazine in August. She replaced Garry Mason. Parsons had been freelance, before which she was editor of IPC's Homes & Ideas, and Emap's Top Sante and Mother & Baby.
