Performance Channel hands sales brief to Media Icon

LONDON - The UK's most popular independent arts and entertainment station, The Performance Channel, has appointed sales house Media Icon to control its ad sales.

The appointment takes effect this month, and comes as the Eicom-owned channel, which broadcasts on channel 270 on the Sky electronic programme guide, rapidly expands.

The account was won from DDMS. Media Icon will also be responsible for ad sales on new sister channel – Performance MainStreet – which launches on Sky on Monday. An online live broadcast site, as well as a shopping service selling CDs and DVDs, will follow.

The two channels will work in tandem. MainStreet will feature contemporary artists, while the Performance Channel will stick with classical music, ballet and opera.

Media Icon sales director Mike Gull said: “The Performance Channel is one of the strongest brands in digital TV, and we’re delighted to have been appointed to grow its ad sales at a time when its ambitious plans are coming to fruition, on air and online.”
