The Brexit bill has cleared parliament, and the government has the all-clear to trigger Article 50 and begin the UK's departure from the European Union.

The House of Lords backed down over amendments seeking guarantees over EU residency rights and a meaningful vote on the final Brexit deal, after their objections were overturned by MPs, . 

Following Royal Assent, the bill is expected to become law today. 

Yesterday, Scottish first minister that she would be seeking permission to hold a second referendum on Scottish independence by spring 2019. 

Prime minister Theresa May has outlined what her critics call a 'hard Brexit', stating that she will reject any settlement that amounts to "partial membership" of the EU, suggesting that the UK will leave both the single market and the customs union.

The industry is divided about the impact Brexit will have. Although a fifth have lost business due to Brexit, a few leaders have expressed 'cautious optimism' that the change in the UK's status can be used to push the creative industries to the fore.
