Parcelforce, the parcel delivery business of the Royal Mail Group, was awarded the account by the European Parcels Group. It will continue to be responsible for delivering around 1m parcels a year, via its 24-hour express service.
The EPG is a collaboration of 16 European postal administrations, offering a standardised day-certain European parcel service for businesses and consumers. Each member was given the opportunity to propose a UK carrier to tender, and seven companies were invited to tender in all.
Vanessa Lesson, managing director of Parcelforce Worldwide, said: "The tendering process was extremely stringent. Each operator was asked to meet 27 specified targets and not one of our competitors could beat us in any of the criteria specified."
