Paid services help Lycos Europe grow revenues by 14%

LONDON - Lycos Europe saw revenues grow 14% in the first quarter to €23.8m, helped by its new focus on revenues from paid services and shopping.

Lycos reduced its net loss by 19% to €11.9m (£7.89m) on the back of revenue growth and cost reductions.

With a 43% share of total revenues, advertising was still the main contributor followed by revenues from paid services and shopping with 29% and from interconnect with 26%.

Lycos said that although the market remained difficult, advertising revenues for the first quarter of 2004 increased by 3% compared with the same period 2003.
