The Tribeca Film Institute was founded in 1988 by Robert de Niro to create and sustain ongoing initiatives that will foster the economic and cultural revitalisation of lower Manhattan.
The Tribeca Film Festival, which takes place between May 3-11, made its debut in May 2002 and attracted more than 150,000 people to Lower Manhattan.
The not-for-profit institute will offer ongoing programme and special events designed to stimulate discussions and interaction among filmmakers about the filmmaking process, and to provide a venue to showcase the best in independent film.
