Orange takes aim at gift market with football text alert boxes

Orange is to roll out boxed text alert products in high-street stores including Woolworths and WH Smith in a bid to target the gift market.

The mobile operator will sell news alert packages in physical boxes to boost awareness of its information services on the high street.

The company also hopes the physical packaging will improve retailers' ability to sell mobile services.

A range of football-based text alerts, called 'Take the game with you', will provide recipients with breaking football news on Premiership matches.

It will also cover games in Nationwide League Divisions One, Two and Three and the Scottish Premier League.

Packages for tournaments including the Champions League, the UEFA Cup and the Worthington Cup will be available.

Users will be able to buy a season of goal alerts for £19.99 at high-street retailers including Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4U and Orange shops.

Stuart Henry, head of sales at Orange UK, said the physical nature of the packaging would "give retailers the opportunity to gain a bigger slice of the action".
