The service will initially provide nine channels, three of which will be live, including news from ITN, CNN, Cartoon Network, Toon World, extreme sports, Fashion TV and live streaming from reality shows such as 'Big Brother'.
The latest offering from the mobile phone giant will only be available on the new Nokia 6680 3G handset and viewing is capped at 1gigabyte, or roughly 20 hours of programming. More handsets are expected to follow along with new channels at a later stage.
Customers can download the software for free and enjoy three months for free to test out the new technology, followed by a subscription of £10 a month.
Alexis Dormandy, chief marketing officer for Orange, said: "This signals the start of a huge new opportunity for our customers, broadcasters, handset manufacturers and production companies."
Other UK operators have been looking into offering TV over mobile phone, with O2 planning a 350 strong trial in the Oxford area in September.
So far O2 has signed up Sky with other broadcasters set to follow. Testers will be able to use their handsets to watch live broadcasts of 16 TV channels including CNN and the Discovery Channel.
Vodafone Group already offers selected channels including CNN to individual handsets over high-speed third-generation phone networks.
Rival 3G operator 3 is also planning to launch a service later this summer for 'Big Brother' fans with live streaming from the house.
