Opodo names UK marketer ahead of major ad push

Opodo, the online travel portal, has recruited Jenny Taylor from

low-cost airline Go as its UK country manager, overseeing all UK

marketing activity, as it prepares to launch here in the next few

weeks.

At Go, Taylor was internet sales and marketing manager, and was widely

credited with helping the company raise its web flight sales by 47%

within two years and relaunching the go-fly.com site across Europe.

Prior to Go, she was KLM UK's e-commerce manager.

Go is not seeking a successor for Taylor. Most of her responsibilities

will now be assumed by business internet manager Cathy Gibbons.

Opodo launched its German operation at Opodo.de last month, and will

roll out in the UK later this month.

According to marketing director Nicolas de Santis, a multi-million-pound

online campaign promoting Opodo as a provider of low-cost airfares will

kick off just prior to the UK launch, followed by an offline campaign in

the spring.

The company hired new media agency Outrider to handle its digital

development and marketing in November (Marketing, November 15). It

appointed Leagas Delaney and Carat as its advertising and media agencies

last summer.
