Of these 29 arrests, it said 11 people have been charged for attempting to resell Olympics tickets illegally.
Those charged could face fines of up to £20,000. The fine for ticket touting increased from £5,000 to a maximum of £20,000 in February.
Among the first to be fined was Wolfgang Menzel. He was caught with £23,000 worth of tickets but was fined just £435 yesterday at Stratford Magistrates Court. He claimed he simply bought too many tickets, and couldn’t sell them all in his native Germany.
Event reported in January that the Met’s Olympic unit, Operation Podium, had made more than 90 arrests since June 2010, and will continue to work during the Games to crack down on illegal touts.
