OMD takes part of Europe in Visa global win

LONDON - Mediaedge:cia is expected to lose the non-EU portion of Visa's European media account to OMD, which was yesterday awarded the bulk of Visa's $500m (£265m) global media business.

OMD yesterday retained the account in the US and Asia, and won Latin America from Starcom.
However, the fate of the European business is yet to be fully decided.

Europe is held by Mediaedge:cia but is divided into two groups, one covering the EU and Turkey and the other covering the rest of Europe.

The EU group is yet to decide between staying with Mediaedge:cia or going to OMD, but it is understood the non-EU part of the account is heading to OMD as part of the global consolidation.

The consortium of banks that own Visa are planning to float the business later this year, creating Visa Inc. However, the EU group, Visa Europe, will remain a membership organisation controlled by European member banks.

Mediaedge:cia's sponsorship division Access is understood to have retained the brief to promote Visa's Olympic sponsorship across all of Europe and Asia-Pacific.
