OMD names Thompson to head North America operation

NEW YORK - Omnicom Group media agency OMD has named Page Thompson as the new CEO for its North American operations.

Thompson is currently chief strategy officer of OMD USA and will take up his new position immediately.

He will oversee all of OMD's operations in the US and Canada, reporting to Joe Uva, president and CEO of OMD Worldwide. Thompson also takes a place on the worldwide board of OMD.

Uva said: "For 28 years, Page has been a powerful advocate for media's role in advertising and has been the central force behind the creation of many of our proprietary strategic media planning and buying tools."

Thompson began his advertising career with J Walter Thompson in 1974. He joined Needham Harper as associate media director. After the agency merged with Doyle Dane Bernbach in 1986, Thompson become media director of DDB New York and in 1996 he was named worldwide media director.

He joined OMD in April. Monica Karo, managing director of OMD West, will now assume the additional role of chief strategy officer.
