Currently, 10,989 workers are ensconced in the east London site, a quarter of whom are residents in the five Olympic Park host boroughs beating a target of 15% set before the build began.

"The Olympic Park and Village "big build" is on track and with the main competition venues and infrastructure set to complete one year ahead of the Games, we are exactly where we wanted to be," said ODA director of construction Howard Shiplee.

"By meeting our commitments to help provide training and employment opportunities for local and previously unemployed people, the "big build" has also created a positive employment legacy for thousands of people."

According to recent figures Olympic venues are now 88% complete, test events are already taking place, the next being beach volleyball at Horse Guards Parade.
