Ogilvy wins easyJet pan-Euro business

EasyJet has awarded its £50 million pan-European integrated advertising account to Ogilvy Group UK following a protracted pitch process.

Ogilvy won the three-year contract after a final shoot-out against Delaney Lund Knox Warren & Partners.

The appointment, which Ogilvy's chairman, Gary Leih, said was a "real group win", involved five of the group's agencies, including OgilvyOne and Ogilvy Interactive.

EasyJet started talking to agencies ten months ago and held its first pitch at the end of 2005. At that time, O&M lined up against Saatchi & Saatchi to compete for the business.

However, in January, easyJet scrapped the pitch, citing a change of strategy, and contacted 20 agencies across Europe with the new brief.

The latest stage of the review was managed by the outgoing marketing manager, David Meliveo. He said the new strategy was to appoint a single agency instead of a number of creative hotshops across Europe. Advertising was originally handled in-house.

EasyJet is in negotiations with OMD, as its three-year media planning contract comes to an end next week.
