Off license chain Oddbins has uncorked a microsite selling 106
different champagnes, and plans to have its full range of beers, wines and
spirits available online next year.
The launch is the company’s first move into e-commerce. It is targeting
the champagne site (www.oddbins.co.uk) mainly at businesses, and is
enabling customers to buy and send to several different recipients in one
transaction.
”This will make life easier particularly for large firms sending out
corporate gifts to clients,” said Oddbins PR manager Karen Wise. The
company has signed deals to appear on FT.com, Associated New Media’s This
is London and Reuters Cityscreen - an intranet subscription service for
City banks - in its drive to appeal to businesses.
Customers can search through specific bottles by price range, brand, style
and vintage. Each bottle is accompanied by an Oddbins’ opinion, and book
and press reviews. Prices range between #13 and #299 a bottle.
Also on the site is information on the history of the wine, the Champagne
region, and the champagne-making process. ”Replicating Oddbins’ quirky
image online has been a huge challenge,” said Mark Gray, account manager
at new-media agency Razorfish, which developed the site.
