The mobile operator revealed the cost of its multimedia messaging services (MMS) as it prepares to roll out the services across its four mobile territories: the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and Germany.
From this month, users of the O2 media-messaging service will be able to send digital photos on a prepay basis or as part of their normal mobile subscription package.
Youth-targeted ads will support the November launch of the MMS service, with the strapline 'Invent your own language'.
UK users will be charged 40p a message, users in the Netherlands EUR0.45 (28p) and German users between EUR0.39 (25p) and EUR0.99 (62p), depending on the size of the message. Pricing for Ireland has yet to be confirmed.
However, the UK will be the only country in which users will be able to bolt on MMS services to their existing mobile phone contract.
Users will be able to cut the cost of each MMS by buying them in blocks of 10 for £3 a month or 25 for £7 a month.
O2 customers will also be able to sign up to picture- and sound-based alerts. These will cover news, sport, entertainment, travel and weather, and will cost upwards of 15p an alert.
The company will also look to develop content and services with the 9,000 developers signed up to its sourceO2 development arm.
