The deal, negotiated by IMG Consulting, is worth £16m, and was last renewed in 2004. The mobile network first sponsored the England team as BT Cellnet, before relaunching as O2.

Meanwhile, Hilton Hotels has agreed a three-year deal to become one of Premier Rugby's exclusive partners, and the official Hotel Partner of the Guinness Premiership.

As part of the category-exclusive partnership, Hilton will provide England's 12 leading clubs with team accommodation at preferential rates for away matches in the League, the EDF Energy Cup and European competitions.

Hilton's flagship hotel on London's Park Lane will play host to the season launch and Guinness Premiership Awards.
